I recently got accepted into YPN, meanwhile I have been a Google AdSense Publisher for the last 7 months or so. I own a few different types of sites in the following subjects, Clipart, Myspace, Arcade, & Informational.
I am curious to learn your guys' experience with either publishing networks. Do you have any recommendations as when to use one network vs. the other? Ideally, I wanted to use YPN and place the ads next to game images on my arcade site, but from what I have learned, that is against the TOS. I also know that Google AdSense targets ads better, which is another benefit to consider. On the other hand, YPN supposedly pays 5-10x more than Google Adsense.
Any suggestions?

you'll have to test out ypn and see how it targets. on some of my websites, it's horrible.. completely irrelevant ads. so i use google there. but, if ypn can understand your content, go with it.

Yeah, good point on the relevancy although with YPN the ads tend to be a lot higher paying so you have to consider that 1 YPN click may generate more revenue than 10 AdSense clicks.
YPN / AdSense both allow you to place images next to the ads (providing you meet their space and line criteria) and both are easy enough to track, so yeah, just give them a try. I'd be interested to see what your findings are and what niche you're targeting :)

I'm going to try YPN on the arcade site I'm about to launch. Will report the results in near future :).

Good advice above. I'd also like to add that on your sites such as ClipArt and Arcade that you may want to add pop-up's/unders, interstitials, etc. I believe on such sites it is quite common and pretty much the standard to have a lot of ads, many of which are the 'annoying' and 'obtrusive' type.
I believe it's fair to say that those sites aren't geared to intellectual members of society, but to usually teenagers sneaking in a game at school for example. Therefore you don't need to worry about return traffic dwindling, also coupled with the fact that this is the norm with such like sites. So I say, put up as many ads as you can muster! Take advantage of the niche which allows you to do this.

If you do end up using pop ups, I recommend Casale over Value/FastClick for these. My Casale account manager claims that this is one format that they can pretty much guarantee better results over FastClick.

Here's my advice ...
Taking a MySpace resource website, for example. If you use YPN, you'll probably have a higher CPC rate - while if you use Google Adsense, you'll probably have more clicks. My reasoning is that Yahoo does not allow images or little icons next to their ads (whatever space requirements they have will definately stand out, anyway, so you're better off not doing it in the first place.), although they will be the higher-paying party, typically.
Google allows images next to ads, which will generate some confusion and you will probably get more clicks using Google than Yahoo on this one. At that point, you just have to see what each network pays per click and decide which one brings in more money.

Regardless of the type of site, the best way is to run both services in an A/B split testing format ... set up the site with one service first, have an alternate set up with the opposite service, then switch them hourly, daily, weekly, whatever will work best for you. In a month or so you will know for sure in your earnings column which one works best for your site, your content and your users ... which is what the question really revolves around. A/B Split testing is the only sure way to know.

Can YPN be used on sites other than the one which you signed up with in the same way that you can use channels with Adsense? I'm starting a new site within the next week and would like to try YPN on it instead of Adsense.
