Thought I would ask for all the vB owners out there , what are your favourite mods / hacks for vB?

I love the article and review system addon and have it installed on my own board. I also like the welcome headers addon that encourages people to post more. The only other mod that I would have installed would be vBSEO.

Anyone else?

I've never used the header add-on that encourages people, but I've heard good things about it. I never used it myself because I always figured if people wanted to join and post, that they would.

I've also never used vBSEO - I don't know, I guess I'm stubborn but I've always felt that vB's built-in search-engine friendly archive was sufficient.

I like the Users in the last 24 hours hack and GAL (Geek Auto Linker). I also recently installed a Mass PM hack on one of my sites and that's bringing in a lot of revenue.

that would be one of the first hacks i would put on to a vBulletin Install (vBSEO), I really like the look of the links when they have some sort of description in them, and if there are SEO benefits, then why not. But the $149 price tag probably wouldnt convince me

There are other options than vbSEO that can be used. I think SEOing your URLs is a great idea Tyler, it gives you twice the exposure to search engines, theoretically :)

Lets talk more about monetizing. What banner systems do you use and how do you manage sponsor links/text ads?

I've just installed the zoints system. I think it's kinda cool - a very extensive blogging and community sort of add on.

With banners, I use my own ad site, has inbuilt rotators etc. and then just hand code it into the template.

Do I sound like I know what i am talking about.. lol

Is it possible/alowed to redesign a particular vBulletin skin? To place menus as you would like and such. Also: is it possible to embed some non-vbulletin graphic or other element in?

If the author allows for modifications(which most would) then it should be alright. I just don't thin they want any copyright removed. And you should be able to embed anything.

It has to be vBadvanced CMPS.

I hate vbulletin boards with too many addons though. It just gets messy - upgrades must be a nightmare as well.
