I have been using GIMP for a while now, and I am slowly learning all the ins and outs. There are still a lot of things that either I don't know how to do, or GIMP just can't do.

I have also seen recently a push for Paint.NET. I downloaded it and tried it out, but it seems the same as GIMP, and I really did not want to learn a whole new program.

Am I just wasting my time with these programs, and should I just find $300 for Photoshop? Or is there a Photoshop alternative out there?

I love photoshop! I used to use paint shop pro back in the day but havent used it in about 3-4 years.

If you are serious about graphics I would spend the money on photoshop.

Thanks, now I just need to figure out where I can get $300.

Anyone know where I can get a cheaper one, maybe $100 or so ...

If you go with a older version of photoshop you can get it for alot cheaper either online or from someone you know. Ideally you should try to raise enough money from your site so your site can buy it for you!

I dont really know anywhere you can get it cheaper, maybe they will have a sale price come christmas time but I am not really sure

Yes the trial is 30 days, and it can decide whether you should purchase the software or not, if you aint interested then buying it would be pointless.

I like photoshop. It looked like too big an investment for me but it turned out to be not just a tool to make my stuff look artistic but also a way to earn money on the side.

Invest in the $300. It is worth it. Believe me.

I think"The Gimp" is most often cited as the free alternative to photo shop . Paint.NET is also helpful.Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.

Interesting. I just actually got a copy of GIMP myself to test out. I currently have photoshop cs3 so it will be interesting to compare and see the differences between the two.
