View Full Version : Kontera on your forums?
Kontera is known to make good money for some forum owners, especially Randy brown, who reports making $1k a month from Kontera. http://success.grownupgeek.com/index.php/2007/10/01/september-earnings-report/
Johnchow also makes $1k a month from Kontera. I'm currently trying them out on my forum, to see if they'll perform good.
So, are you using Kontera? How well does it perform for you?

Well, it is important to note that JC has a deal with Kontera where they are simply paying him $1,000 a month to use them.
From that link you gave, Mr. Randy Brown has over 250,000 uniques a month with over 700,000 page views, equating to around $1.40 CPM which is certainly a great CPM, but since he has a high-traffic forum I wouldn't be surprised if he also cut a deal with Kontera..
What's his forum, do you know?

Ya.. His forum link is http://grownupgeek.com/forum
I'm sure the more traffic that your forum receives, the higher your eCPM is, but that might not be the case.
I know my account manager is still optimizing my ads.

I do not think publisherforums is currently suited for kontera, since it does not have the traffic capacity to drive it's cpm to earn more money.

Personally I don't like Kontera adds. They feel way too "spammy" to me.
First of all, I've had more success with Vibrant.
Second of all, it really depends on what type of community you are promoting. Some communities have a lot of transient, just-passing-through traffic where you as an admin aren't really "close" to them. On the other hand, my biggest forum has a VERY loyal member base with a high margin of returning users (avg. 100 post per user!). Kontera was just too spammy and I lost a little respect from them when I tested it out and got a lot of complaints. They're cool with ads because they want to see my site stay up and for me to be rewarded for my efforts, but Kontera (and similar ads) is just too deceptive for loyal forum users.

I dont like kontera because I find it pisses my member base off more then its worth. They hate how it pops up when they think its a link but its cleary different then a normal link either way I didnt use them fro very long.

Vibrant Media is a lot older too - and has more advertisers.
So, do you want your users to pay for all your websites - or would you rather have Kontera help you pay for your server fees? Money is money and unless your users are willing to pay for your site's future, then I wouldn't whine about it. Tell them to use ad block if its such a problem.
