In the passing months we've seen markets become more and more saturated, to mention a few... Image upload sites, arcades, MySpace resource sites, proxies, etc.

What do you see becoming the next popular type of site? - I didn't say 'big thing' as the majority of the sites in the above genres never really make it big.

To be honest I have no idea, and if I did I would go out and make a load of sites for the topic. We will only really realise once someone has a great idea and everyone decides to copy it.

I don't mean, foresee... More, what kind of site do you see on the rise?

Trends are usually set after a particular new type of site has successfully launched. Examples of this include but are not limited to: TheMillionDollarHomepage, Arcade Sites, MySpace sites, and poker sites.

I'm not really sure if you can predict what the next trend or popular thing will be, because it almost always follows a particularly new or popular site that does well.

Ah, on the rise. That's a different question :) I haven't noticed anything lately, except for perhaps more blogs and sites which try to offer special or unique services, such as forum populating, coupons, etc.

I'm currently working on something that I see has potential being the 'next big thing'. For reasons, in my interest, I won't disclose it right now. But hopefully I'll be somewhat on the dot with it. A site I'm basing it around is climbing the Alexa Ranking like crazy, around 3k-5k ranking daily, probably will climb higher in the upcoming weeks. There are only a couple sites similar to it. The problem with them is that they aren't as user friendly as they could be, including the site that I'm basing my development off of. Keeping it short and simple will hopefully work. The great thing about it is, development costs are extremly low. :)

It's hard to tell what the next trend is. Usually it's when someone releases a kick ass script and everybody jumps at it.

well i personaly think it will be sites to help amateur artists sell their products and not only music but all media. Kind of like a amateur napster. This will then evolve into a rise in online record companies, some of the big companies have already started to take interest as i suspected such as channel 4 in the UK.

This is interesting. Talking about trends, why not create a sophisticated program which analyzes changes in Alexa and then compares likewise sites? Alexa already does this with their "Movers & Shakers", but making a program that is a bit more sophisticated could really basically be a "Trend Machine"... very interesting idea, no?

web services are sites allowing you to integrate their technology into yours, such as the google and yahoo apis and amazon web services, and even rss feeds.

as always, wikipedia has more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_service

Maybe interactive content will be the thing of the future. I already like a lot of services like Writely from google and many others. Web services are definitely going to be the next big thing.

Oh I see, that does seem to be a rising trend. But as stated above, community is still #1.
