View Full Version : Where to purchase a domain?

My first post on PF, and wasn't too sure where to put this so please move if necessary.
At the moment I have about 10 domains registered under 1&1, but I don't really like some aspects of it. For example, if I use my own name servers, the email forwarding doesn't work.
Can anybody recommend where I can move to, looking to buy about another 5 soon.
Thanks in advance.

I would use http://www.namecheap.com or http://www.godaddy.com but i recomend namecheap at the moment since they offer free WhoisGuard on each domain. You can also find coupons for both these sites at http://www.dncoupons.com/
Hope that helps!

Thanks for that. May go with namecheap then. Like their name says...are they one of the cheapest? I can tell there's big difference in price between them and 1&1. Are there any extra charges than the $8.88, like any extra one off registration charges?
Thanks. Btw, doesn't this forum make use of the reputation system?

I have purchased both of my domain names at www.namecheap.com and i have never had any problems with them. So, I recommend them to you.

I'd recommend NameCheap of iDotz.net
NameCheap seems to be the major domain player, so I'll probably transfer many of my domains to them when they expire.

I felt for the first year one could try netfirms.com cause its the cheapest.
Though I am a bit new in this field yet I feel that they do provide sufficient features. Do let me know if I am wrong.

There are only small differences in price for .com or .net domains. You will pay for them from $6 to $9/year anywhere. But reliability, speed of changing nameservers, navigation mean the most, so I didn't search a lot for all registrars but went with Namecheap after reading few reviews.
The other thing is, if you from some reason need a lot of very cheap domains, like .info for $0.85. Someone bought 100 .info domains, developed PR and then start selling links very succesfully...

I'd recommend NameCheap and GoDaddy. Both are reliable, cheap, fast, and reputable. But they really are cheap, as a result you'll have to navigate your way through a lot of ads.
I mainly use GoDaddy.

I'd suggest not using Go Daddy personally. I've known a couple people who's domains have been taken from them by Go Daddy. That personally right there makes me have no trust in Go Daddy, plus after seeing interviews of the president of Go Daddy on TV, looks like an S.O.B. Plus all they do is advertise their crap every second they get on their site, it's annoying. Dislike them very much.
Agree with Submerge avoid Godaddy, one of the domains that i owned got slapped with a invalid whois, i think someone reported on me, and godaddy took the domain down till the updated it with a valid information and paid them $20 US. For .ca domains i strongly suggest namespro.ca

I use GoDaddy and have had hundreds of domains with them without any problems. Their newer domain control panel kicks major butt as well.
I actually bought a reseller account from them because I have enough domains to warrant the cost. I essentially buy domains from myself (www.creationnationmedia - cheap plug!) and I lower my own buy price. Otherwise, definitely GoDaddy for me.

Since I started being a web publisher (around September 2005) I had always been using GoDaddy and had no problems at all! I don't like having my domain names in seperate registrars so all my domain names are on Godaddy. I would suggest using them but then again I had no experience with other registrars.

How much does a Go Daddy domain register reseller cost?

I have several NameCheap domains, and I reccomend them. Do NOT go with godaddy, I have heard about way too many complaints about them stealing domains, making extra charges, and offering horrible support to ever use them!
Namecheap is the best out there. Cheap prices, free WHOIS, and the domain panel is amazing. Can't find better.

I'm surprised no one recommended 1and1.com. They have $5.99 domains + free private registration if you need any. Used them for years without a problem. Clean control panel also. Highly recommended.

I was going to use NameCheap for all my domains, but they have some minor kinks in their system so I'll wait for awhile, but if 1&1 is a decent host I might use them, I just want a trustworthy registrar who won't go under easily.

I have used Godaddy for years without any problems - and I agree that their new control panel is pretty good.
I've also (like everyone here it seems) have heard good things about namecheap - although I don't have any domains with them myself.

I guess godaddy is the best bet, as it is so popular.

Does anyone know of any recourse if GoDaddy or some other registrar "steals" your domain? I just moved my domain to them for 10 years so it wouldn't be snapped up if I forget to renew or something.

That's probably because he said he uses them at the moment and doesn't like them ;)

Read this post (http://www.ipwalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78) and check the links below that post also. It's about domain tasting and GoDaddy is mentioned in the bottom link.

I've known people who have had their domains reported and got their domains taken from them through GoDaddy. They don't seem to give their customers a chance to explain.
