Do/have any of you code(d) using older techniques (tables, no stylesheets) to code a site recently? I'm in a web design class at my school, and they are just teaching us basic HTML in the way that sites were coded in 1998. The techniques and stuff work very well and could present the same way as current XHTML/CSS, so I am just wondering. I think it would be interesting to see a modern site coded old-fashioned.

I don't design/code anymore, but my knowledge is indeed old-school. I don't know CSS and the new trends and techniques, so my knowledge is extremely limited.

Basically all of my sites are in the oldschool, and bad HTML. Movie-Vault.com (http://www.movie-vault.com) is for example. I've sold a lot of my older sites so they aren't up anymore.

I never code in CSS, XHTML for the sole reason that tables is quicker and it displays right in every browser that I can be bothered looking at.

Maybe you should read this article, Illusion.

Andrew, that's the reason I won't go to school in Design, because most of them (if not all) still use standards from over 2 years old.

I myself always code Xhtml+css

I'm going to have to agree with Sam illusion - I may still use Tables, but I wish I knew how to do it in CSS. Part of the problem in switching it that it's such a radical change... hard to get used to :)

I am still getting used to designing without tables. It just became so ingrained over the years before css became standard that it is difficult to overcome - I'm getting there though.

Get used to the changes. With the trends moving towards standards based design it may soon become law. In the Netherlands, it has.
