Well I am a little confused about how the whole domain hosting/web hosting works. So for example, if I was to buy a site and it costs 5 dollars a month I get tons of emails, 50 gbs, and whatnot. However, there are just sites for nearly the same price a year. What I don't get is what do these domains offer? Does the site have space/bandwidth? A server? Or do I need to have the domain hosted on my own server? See, I want to buy another website for the purpose of being my own personal portfolio/blog, similar to TYLERCRUZ.COM!! I don't want to be paying the monthly price though, just the 8 dollar a year plan.

So before I do get it, what do I need to know?

Thanks for the help people!

Not sure if I correctly understand you, BUT I think you're looking at buying a domain and then getting hosting? Is this correct?

If you buy a domain, then depending on where you register it at(for you I suggest GoDaddy.com), it will cost a flat rate cost of around 8-10 dollars a year. You don't have to pay any extra charges until the next year rolls around where you then have to "re-buy" it.

From then you need to look at some hosting plans. Depending on which one you pick, and I know it's hard to pick one, it should be something from around 5-15 dollars a month. You CAN pay for the whole year at one time though, and I think that's where you're getting confused. From there you set your nameservers, add the domain to your hosting account, set everything etc. That's a whole different story though.

Anyways, good luck and I hoped I helped! :)

Well I currently own a hostmonster.com web hosting plan which is 5 dollars a month. However hostmonster doesn't sell just domins. Is it possible that I can purchase a domain from say godaddy and host it on my CursedGFX hostmonster account?

You can buy a domain name and just change your nameservers to Hostmonster's nameserver at Godaddy so that your domain name works with your hosting provider (Hostmonster).

When you are setting up a new website you need to:

1. buy a domain e.g. www.mywebsite.com (you typically buy a domain for a period of 1 or 2 years, it typically costs around $10)

2. then you need to buy some web hosting (where you store you website, this normally costs a set a month per month e.g. $4.).

3. next you need to point your domain at your web hosting (to do this you login to the site where you registered your domain and enter some information, called nameservers, your host will provide you with these when you buy your hosting: e.g. ns1.myhost.com & ns2.myhost.com).

Notes:

As for bandwidth is this is the amount of data you can transfer monthly, bandwidth normally used up by downloads/visitors viewing pages on your site.

I hope thats what you meant :).

Predator, you are seriously confused. Never buy anything related to hosting for $8 a year. At least, you should be buying hosting for $5 a month. A domain for $8 a year.

And you can buy a domain and hosting from different companies, at least if they are a good company.

Ok well I have a web hosting account with hostmonster.com, and I want another domain for my personal blog. Hostmonster does not just offer domains, only domains with web hosting. What do I do?

You buy the domain at say, Godaddy.com, and then go to your domain account area and to the "Set Nameserver" section. Open a new window, login to your hosting account, and since I assume you're using cPanel, click "Add Domains" or something related to that. Type in your domain you just bought and click submit etc. After you do, it should give you some nameservers. Copy and paste those into your Godaddy window where it asks you for your nameservers. Wait around 10 min - 3 hours depending on your IPS DNS time, and you should be able to start working on your new website!

I believe Godaddy allows payment through paypal. Namecheap.com as well. And so does iDotz.net

Out of the 3, I'd recommend NameCheap or iDotz. GoDaddy is extremely annoying to its customers.

You can have one blog on a main domain and the other blog on a subdomain (blog.domain.com) or directory (domain.com/blog). So you need to have one domain and one subdomain.

If you want to have both blogs on two separate main domains, you can consider going with Bluehost.com which gives you 6 domain hosting for about $6/month! I think they are even the same company as Hostmonster.
