View Full Version : New blog relaunched
Hey guys, I dont know if this is the right section to post this.
I've relaunched my blog, previous www.devspeak.org now www.zanejamal.co.uk. Major focus was obviously typography. It is intended to have large font sizes to give that magazine type feel. Although I understand low res users will see it as gigantic so I am adding a CSS style sheet switcher for a small font size.
What do you think ?

I personally am not that big of a fan of your h u g e text, haha makes me feel physically challenged.

I explained that in my post on my blog and on this fourm. I'll be adding a style sheet switched for lower res people. But for people with higher res like me, 1280, 1024 I think it looks fine. You can always just change it through the browser or if your in firefox press CTRL then -. Thanks for your opinion anyway, personally i like it big as its easier to read :P.

As Predator said, I don't like the large text at all. If you have such a hard time reading the text, why not go to a lower resolution?

http://www.zanejamal.co.uk/ 's fonts are huge! And not too readable too.. Maybe you want to consider changing the fonts color. Er... also I still can't figured out where is the portfolio link. :-(

I'm considering darkening the main font colour slightly, the size is going to stay, but im adding a style switcher anyway. The portfolio link is under links at the bottom :P. But its not active at the moment, i need to fix something in wordpress first.
edit - Darkened main body font. Thanks for bringing up that issue, I think it looks better now.

But in all honesty, why would the visitor want to CTRL - when visiting the site? If it isn't pleasing to look at the second the visitor gets there, why would they want to spend the time to shrink the text before moving onto another site. Got to think about the audiences first instincts, not telling them how to correct it.

most people ive talked to like it. For those who dont like it that size, there will be a easy way to change it and it will probably be cookie based so they dont have to do it everytime.
I was also considering a tiny bit of simple javascript where if someone has a resolution of 1024 or 800 or lower it loads styleA.css and if they have a resolution larger than 1024 e.g. 1152 or 1280 it loads styleB.css.

Clean and easy to navigate. Not a bad blog at all. I think the page is too long to be honest. You should have some of the links at a lower txt size and make them on the side up in the middle/right part of the page or even the left.

Yes, I'd believe switching styles would be the best alternative.
I don't like it, I left it after trying to finish the first sentence. The text is just too big.
Hey guys, thanks for your opinions. Most people on here dont seem to be liking it, but I do at least :P. I will be changing a few things over the next week which will hopefully improve it in some ways. Thanks again.

I am running at 1680x1050 (widescreen, his res) and the text looks too big to me. I would reduce the size a little, i like the design though :).
Could always start with an average text size and have a +/- text size javascript.
