Stan,

No, you do not need a separate account for each site - in fact, it is against Google's TOS to have more than one account.

I have 4 sites on my account, and I separate the results from each site using channels.

Multiple accounts held by the same individual or entity are subject to immediate termination unless expressly authorized in writing by Google (including by electronic mail).

From part 1 of the Google Adsense Terms & Conditions (https://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms)

Actually, this is beneficial for another reason - once you are accepted, you can add future sites immediately; there is no review process like there is when you first apply.

You are still, of course, expected to comply with Adsense's TOS, and they can indeed revoke your account if you don't, but not having to apply for each new site is indeed useful.

Just make sure the additional sites follow the adsense terms of service and if your not sure it doesn't hurt to shoot Google an email. They usually respond within 24-48hrs.

No you do not need separate accounts. You can also track them through the same amount by using channels or adfreestats.com

What is the basic purpose of channels? I have never tested them out.
