I'm thinking about starting an affiliate program, because of all the Potential traffic it Could generate.


However, if I tried a pay-per-click affiliate program, how much should I give per click, anyone have any stats on the average?

5 - 10 cents a click is average, but depends on the price of the item. I'd suggest going CPA as you won't lose money that way.

Can I not based it on the sales instead of clicks. Or is that a bad strategy?

That's what submerge told you. You should try out CPA as an advertiser. It will reduce your chances of wasting money on nontargeted traffic.
