Some tips for good ad placement in forums...

1- Placing them after the first post.
2- Placing them in a left side navigation menu.

These are the various ad placements that I have heard work well for forums. If you have more tips, then do reply in this thread.

Put link units in areas that look like navigational menus. I think that works the best.

i think google ads on a forum dont really work well, your members will not see the ads anymore after some time (they will get used to it)

CPM will work better if you ask me (using both will probably make the most profit)

Thank you for your tips of where to put the Ads in a Forum, that is always a challenging thing, the only problem with your ideas of where to put them, is that most of my members do not like to see ads in those 2 spots of my community!

Actually I think the best way to monetize a forum is giving members something extra (tools, extra articles,...) for a monthly or yearly subscription fee.

this can work it think, but you have to give them something unique, not something they can get on other sites

Actually you don't have to offer anything, sometimes just a fancy status bar will do. You'd be amazed of the amount of people that want to support the community they love. Just look at the wikipedia donations for example.

My google ads seem to go pretty well. The link ones don't - they are just too small, and nobody seems to notice them.
