Techy oriented people can go on Wikipedia: Internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet). Hyperlinked terms will lead you around through "modem", "FTP", "co-locating hosting", "internet protocols"...

The Internet is pretty interesting, engineers really seem to know what they are doing and work marvels. Can't wait til IPv6 takes off.

What do you expect from it?

There are some not-so-user friendly explanations of IPv6 here (http://www.ipv6.org/) and on Wikipedia here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6).
