Yeah, I think there are things called converters that convert all your content into a vbulletin format.

This thread on vBulletin forum (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205567) explains it enough, I guess.

Yes you can, vBulletin supplies conversion scripts for most of the popular bulletin board softwares.

Count me down for PHPBB. I just can't justify blowing tons of cash on a forum system when a just as good system is available for free. With the latest version of PHPBB out, it can stand up to vBulletin where need be.
And, it's free. Can't beat that. If I had money to waste, I'd get vBulletin for sure.
You shouldn't use phpBB, why not use Vanilla? Vanilla is opensource, alot of plugins available, you should atleast check it out.

Vanilla url is

I don't like its look and feel.
I use phpBB. New version is better than current one, but still have lot of bugs and it take time to released.
For my forum, i still use phpBB, waiting for new version, may be i will move on to vBulletin + vBSEO (have to pay more).

Vanilla looks too simple to ever be anything great. I have never heard of it anyhow until now. It is clean though, I'll give it that. Might be good for all of the web 2.0 obsessive people out there looking to stay with the trend.
Plus, who names a forum system Vanilla?

I'm actually quite a big fan of Vanilla - yeah it might not work for all forums, but for some it's great. The music bloggers forum over at elbo.ws uses it and it is perfect for the job.
Another forum to look at though would be PunBB which is lightweight, open source and a really well written bit of traditional forum software.

vBulletin is a great piece of software and the new phpBB looks promising but who know when it will finally be released :(

Check out E-Blah Forum Software at http://www.eblah.com. I use on my forums at http://www.nwo-wmg.org/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?. You can convert many BB to EBlah.

This isnt exactly on topic. But, just an advice also have a look at IPB. IPB has improved a lot and looks fairly good. I played with the cpanel a bit. Its must better than before.
So, it may be a good idea to just check it out before buying vBulletin.

I use phpbb. I know a lot of people say its open to hackers, but any software which is used to this large a degree will always be a target. Is it easy to mod vb?

if you're not intimidated by code then yes, it's easy to customize vb

People say using phpBB makes your site look less professional beacause its free, but i think its decent software.

ok im really thinking about upgrading to VB as soon as possible...
i mean im trying to bring up my forum fast as possible but i dont want to bring it up so fast because of hackers...i know they prob. would care less about my site but there are those hackers that are testing out there skills.. and the last thing i want is my new forum on the rise getting beat down by a hacker and loosing all content. Anyone know how i can protect from this? even on vb?
