Hey there, I've just got two suggestions for forums: An Introductions forum and Domain Valuation/Appraisals.

I think it'd be nice to be able to introduce myself to the community. And I also think the Domain Valuation forum would be good for people considering selling their domain.

Seem like good ideas to me :)

I would like to see a section devoted to tech news. I think that would be helpful to a lot of people.

I agree with bdude on the needing introductions and domain appraisals forums. I'm sure they would be useful to various publishers, and with you running another posting competition you might get a few more signups/new members ;)

Not sure about the tech news forum though. This is a web publisher forum and tech news isn't exactly relevant to that - and if you find something really useful then the off topic forum would work quite well for that. I just think its focus is what makes this forum work, and there are plenty of tech forums about if you want to talk tech - not that I mind of course ;)

I'm also interested in tech and I also think it can go in Offtopic. I personally don't like domain appraisals since this is mostly only a fiction. You tell a domain, I say it worths $100. Why someone on this forum would now the worth of a domain better than you?

Thanks for the suggestions guys - I'm always interesting in hearing ways to improve the site. Unfortunately, I won't be using any of them for the following reasons:

Introductions Forum

I've never been a fan of such areas. Only a small amount of new members actually post there, and then when they do, all that occurs is that everybody basically says "Hi." Consequently, all the threads are virtually the same and nothing really comes out of it other than a bit of a welcoming committee.

As the site grows, it makes even less sense to have such an area. If people want to announce their arrival, they can start a new thread... but there isn't enough of such threads to warrant a dedicated forum for them.

Domain Valuation/Appraisals

This is a great forum if this was more of a domain-related forum, but we're focusing more on the monetization and entrepreneurialism of web publishing, and not-so-much domains.

There are a lot of forums we could add, but we can only realistically have so many.

Tech News

Any reason why such posts couldn't be made in Publisher & Industry News (http://www.publisherforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29) or General Discussion?

Thanks guys, but I think the only forums I'd be open to making would be related to the monetization and entrepreneurialism of web publishing, and I think we already have enough forums as it is... :)

An introduction forum really depends on where the webmaster is trying to go with the forum. An intro forum does permit a lot of useless posts/threads, but does help a budding community look more active as it raises the post/thread count.

Seems fair enough reasons, the introduction forums are mainly spammers looking to increase post count anyway. For the domain appraisals, a small subforum on the Domains for Sale could be worth while.
