Hi guys,

I've recently launched a new forums site for chess players, www.chessforums.org looking to get a custom vB skin sorted in the next few weeks, as well as plans for integrated live time chess games, leagues and tournaments :D

Feel free to register ;)

Thanks,
Greg

Nice domain, can't wait to the the finished skin, I hate the current one. :) Too bad I suck at chess though, I know Tyler is like God at it, I think?

Yeah I know!!! I'm waiting on a reply from vbulletinskinz.com, hopefully I can afford their services with a bit of my own design input, as I like all the work they've done (including PublisherForums ;))
Thanks,
Greg

I quite like the skin myself. Very nice domain, should be top of google soon enough!

vBulletin Skinz should be a pretty good combo for your forum, but prepared to spend $1000 on the skin through them, I believe that is how much they charge.

Its ok, but I've seen the skin around a lot recently, and would really like to get a custom design done, as well as designing my own logo (bottom of a long list of jobs at the moment!)

Its appearing at No.11 on Google for 'chess forums', I have already got vBSEO installed so hopefully that will only improve in the next few months. Stuck down at page 13 for 'chess forum' but can't complain as it is still very new,

I was wondering what their prices are like, hopefully if I can input some design ideas myself, including the logo design I can get a good quote

I had the opportunity of buying chessforums.com about 2 years ago.. the guy only wanted $200 for it I believe... I thought about it but didn't end up buying it... what a wasted opportunity, eh? Don't know what I was thinking.

ChessForums.org is still a very good domain though, so congrats.

Yeah.. it looks like a large domain parking company owns the domain now.. although that could also be a registrars's parking page.. you may want to do some Googling and see if it's still up for sale..

Hi Tyler,

Thanks :) I must have been inspired from a visit to a well known games forum!
Will have a look around, see what I can find out on that one, although I'm thinking investment in a nice vB skin would be better money spent at this stage, what do you think?

I think the money would be better spent buying the .com and then purchasing a skin.

Interesting, the way I saw it was to get the site looking right, get some new members in, then as things improve look to get the .com. I guess it all comes down to whether the .com is for sale and at what price :)

Thanks,
Greg

Hey guys,

Just wondered if you could give me your opinions on the new look ChessForums.org, I've just completed a re-design based on a free vB skin :)

Thanks,
Greg

Wow, I really like it. The only downfall I see is it is fixed width, stretches in 800x600. Otherwise it looks very nice, better than the old layout.

Thanks Submerge :)
Its a definite improvement in terms of usability when compared with the old one, I'm suprised it has made that much of a difference... but it does!
I'm going to look to switch it to a fluid version, don't know how tricky thats going to be!

Thanks,
Greg

Very nice domain you have got. Maybe it will turn out to be a very good forum idea, because I have never seen any chess forums earlier.
