...just like that.

Only certain institutions which fulfill these requirements (http://www.educause.edu/edudomain/policy.asp) ca register .edu domains. This and the fact the y usually develop large comprehensive, very focused sites is the reason why getting a backlink from .edu site can worth a lot.

.gov domains can be registered only by US government related organisations. Check (http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creating/registergov.html). The .gov domain home page: dotgov.gov - doesn't open at the moment I'm writing this.

Isn't this common knowledge? They should be private TLDs.

You can find almost everything on the internet, but it is hard to find education resources and many articles are not free. Searching exclusively through edu domains can thereby be exciting.

On http://searchedu.com you can search for "only edu" sites, "gov sites", "military sites" , you can search through Merriam Webster dictionary, Infoplease, A&E Biographies...

On first trial, it works great. I was looking for birds (http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/) and found few great resources with images and description.

It is certainly a challenge to get into a .edu site's link list. I think a site which ads something to original edu site might be welcomed very well.
