Hi all,
I would like to create a thread about different business models for websites.
What are your business models, meaning what is your strategy for monetizing your sites?
I have heard of 1 which I'm sure everyone has tried: Build a few small sites and try make create a low income from each. Has anyone been succesfull with this approach???
There are lots out there. So tell us yours....

I'm trying out PPC Arbitrage right now.
For me though, I don't have much business knowhow in the acedemic sense - mine is more from the gut, intuition, and experience.
I don't focus on the monetization aspect. Instead, I think of a valuable resource I can create which is both useful and quality. I don't worry about the monetization because I feel it is always easy to monetize something, and that the difficult part is making something popular.
However, I do always consider how an idea i have will make money, and how well it might make money and what ways it might make money, but for actually strategizing how I'll make money in detail, I never do that. I'll have a few ideas, but nothing in detail.

I feel the same way. I typically don't even have ads on new websites until they gain some popularity.

Like Tyler, I focus on the idea before the money first. I do set myself targets though, which helps me concentrate on gaining a return from my investment.

Idea. Research. Plan. Develop. Content. Monetize. Update. And I monetize in a clever and minimal way. Make sure my ads are known as ads but also make sure they are relevant to the content, so rather than people clicking home (usually google) the ads are tantalising enough as the content so they click out instead.

My website model is to create a website about a hobby...something about which I am passionate. That's what I have done for my 2 websites and they earn pretty good money for me now.

It would be good if anyone of you can give a step by step guide about making a new website and earning from it. If u know of any links where someone has explained it even that would do.

Because there's no fun in that :) You just need to build something you are interested in and learn from the success and mistakes...

I don't see the need for a tutorial on earning money from a site, it is rather easy. Just need to sign up to a ad publishing company (like Google) and put the ads on your site. If you can't do that, the web isn't for you.
Seo'd small webpages (around 5 pages) promoting affiliate products. Key to my succes is volume.

Well its not just about that simple. Cause there are a lot of complexities going in promotion and SEO and that is why big big forums are setup so that ppl can discuss such things and come up with some easy guides and ways to get better results. Now all I was asking if some knowledgeable person could compile it in some easy format and present it to the newbies.

I agree here - if it is all that simple OK, guys then show your money and before that show your sucsessfull sites ;) .
First thing someone should decide is -
1. do I want to make a usefull site and hope to earn with it or
2. want to earn the money and just need to find a "trick".
In any case - what you need to know the first is : What do I want to build? The easiest way is to build what you are familiar with or good with it (some talent you might have). A talent is something what you already got some appraisal for from someone.
I'm just considering to start to write this guide now.
OK; for particular question: Are you wiling to reveal here what you can "proof" you are good with?

Well I am a Doctor by profession and so I can write about medicine and anything related to it.
The fact is not just about writing its about the whole process of earning.
I mean I have read it at a lot of places, articles about traffic generation, website promotion and SEO. Now what I would want is if someone can compile the good ones and come up with an intresting system.
To give an example like there is lots of shit and crap about forex and there are good sites about forex. But www.babypips.com has a compilied school database where u get a tutorial in a step by step manner

Have you ever thougt about opening a health/medical articles directory and then invite people or companies to write articles and you can charge for submission. Idea is in beeing very strict about what to accept, deny all or most pharmacy related articles - since these are deadly annoying and all real visitors will run away from this.
The other side of idea is that you can contact some already established big health sites and invite them to write some good article.
I've just found healia.com search engine which seems great. Check healthboards.com - people are discussing their diseases on a peer to peer basis - to see what people are really interesting in.

hey thanks boron. You seem to have really taken to heart at getting me along with online earning. And thanks for the small research u did as well.
I did think about this but just was too lazy to lookup the right sources. Now that u have done the initial workup I guess I have to do my part as well.

As I know you are pretty fast and concise reader. You can introduce yourself in another brand: health/medicine articles proof reading (English/content professional checking). Rates in this particular business are quite high, if you can afford to lower it a bit - hey - you can join all your health work. Try to contact some health article writers on all those freelance sites for more info.
