I found a funny site today that let's you find a domain name with d.o.t.s in it.

I found my keyword but now I'm wondering if the dots matter.

Are there any current fads that are just starting?

All the time, but you have to keep your eye open to them. Usually when you spot them, so has everyone else and so they get whored. If you can spot it before the rest of the crowd, the best for you.
