A turnkey site is where the seller is selling a site in which the buyer has to do nothing to get it up and running.

a turnkey website is one that is cheap, hackneyed, and low-quality

I don't think that rights. AFAIK, a turnkey site is a brand new site that has no traffic or anything, and is sold as soon as it is opened, hence the name, the owner "turns" the "key" to the site and sells it.

There are many different opinions as to what a turnkey site actually is, here's mine:
A site that just needs to be hosted in order to run as it should do :)

my definition might not be what a turnkey seller will tell you, but it is what you would get.

I think the internet has warped the initial meaning of turnkey.
All you need to do is turn the key, and the site is up.
Whether it generates revenue or not isn't part of the definition.

A turnkey site isn't that, it's just that turnkey sites are made to be that way. Turnkey sites can be completely custom and high-quality. If Tyler were to sell this right now, then it too would be a turnkey site.
A turnkey site is a site which is ready to go. It is fully developed but does not have any traffic or revenue. Hence "turn" and "key" because all it needs is to be hosted e.t.c to turn the key and get going.
I would like to add that the "key" is yet to be "turned" too.
It's a website that runs fine but has no decent background (ie it hasn't been running for months so you have no idea of its stable revenue)

Wheres the best place to sell turnkey sites, I mean, where the best place where your turnkey site is most likely to be sold, and which doesn't charge you to sell something?
Is Tyler, Anthony, BryanLe etc. Turnkey sellers?
a turnkey website is one that is cheap, hackneyed, and low-qualityI must disagree. The definition of a turnkey does not include the words "cheap" or "hackneyed" or "low-quality".
fully equipped; ready to go into operation: a turnkey business
Unfortunately, what you usually get is not so great. But one is rarely forced at gun point to buy an ugly turnkey site therefore the buyer must see some value in what they are buying. No logical shopper ever looks at something and says, "Now that is cheap, hackneyed, and low-quality. I'll take it!". Value is seen in everything that sells otherwise it wouldn't sell.
Also, i think turnkey sites should always be viewed as a starting point, at the very least in terms of traffic. Turnkey sites are not going to do anything for the buyer if they won't at least drive traffic to the site. On top of traffic, it's also wise for the buyer to customize and differentiate their site from others'.

A turnkey site is simple, something that can be setup easily and ran almost instantly. Similar to a turnkey house, referencing back to decades ago. When house were premade and consumers would by the "turnkey" to the house.

I agree, I'd much go custom built. But they have shown to make quick cash. Look at the arcade, proxy, myspace turnkeys. All has success with some people.
