To be honest i see only regular post by like 10 regular members here. I almost see no new people post except for the fact that that they are advertising something or trying to sell domains or something.
Anyone else notice this? The contest doesn't seem to be bringing in any new people and i kinda know why.. but i already said it before and i don't wanna keep saying it because i would sound like a broken record..
Besides changing the contest to more Noob friendly, is there anything else that we can do to make this site more popular and make people wanna join? So far since i've been here, which is about a month now or so the number has only gone up about 20-30 i recall. Which isn't bad by all means but only like 5-10 of those members actually posted something and probably only 5 of those actually stayed. others were just spam.
Anyone else getting this or just me? I like this forum but i feel there isn't enough being done to promote it. I tell alot of my friends about it but to be honest Digital point is all anyone ever needed in this category of forums. So i guess the sheer power of DP is whats keeping this forum in its shadows..
I agree.
I think Tyler should actually regular visit his forum and post some things.

The contest doesn't work because it's to damn hard to get anything. E.g. the points one ...
50 points minimum ..
1 point for a referral?! It's hardly worth referring anyone for 1 point.
10 point for a blog post .. not bad but your blog would look stupid with 5 "Tyler has a contest on" entries (and it's probably against the rules).
The referred blog post is a little stupid too.
I just don't see how anyone is going to get to 50 points.
500 post minimum is a little ambitious for top posts too.

200 posts in 40 days is kind of hard. That's 5 posts a day if you started on day 1, and even harder if you started later.
I come here everyday but sometimes I don't post. How about getting points for visiting everyday? But you can't just leave the site open in a different browser tab, you have to be reading posts and stuff. I know Tyler can tell which pages I'm on or what I'm doing when I'm on Movie-Vault.com. How about getting 1 point for every hour you use the site? Is that possible?
Like, I come in the morning to see what's new, read posts and visit pages for 1 hour and get a point.
I come back at 1PM to do some research on a topic or find a link I read about here, stay for an hour, get another point.
Come back in the evening for something, use the site for an hour, get a point.
Can that be done?

The main thing is that tyler himself doesnt participate in forum activities. In a new forum if things are slow the admin and mods need to be more active and create new threads etc.
And yeah getting points is hard. I tried in making the html table contest. It took me about 2 hours, but didnt win anything :(

I do see that it would be hard for a person to win if they didn't start withing the first couple weeks.

i guess the point is, its not noob friendly. and thats who you want to bring in. when noobs see the contest rules they kinda go "hell screw that, way to hard"
personally either he should buy like 5 nanos with that 1000$ and have some forum games or different categories like ipod nano for top poster, top thread maker, etc etc. this contest is just not noob friendly. Anyone else besides the two people with 500 posts actually trying to win?

I see your point, but I wouldn't recommend directly buying Nanos as not everyone wants a Nano. Either a choice between a Nano or money would be more suitable.

My opinion about:
- points for referrals: Rising points will bring more referrals just for the sake of rising points.
-points for blog posts: if you "switch on" all possibilities about where and how to get blog posts - it can work. It's a big prize so some effort is expected.
-200 posts to qualify for quality poster. Rules are still not clear, one good suggestion was mas mede in last contest results thread though.
- 500 posts for the top poster is pushing all compertitors to spam badly instead of encouraging good posts. That money could be simply allocote as one or two or three...additional prices in quality poster contest.

Hi guys, I moved this to the appropriate forum.
I apologize for being absenst lately. The truth is that I've been very busy. Between my blog and the sheer volume of e-mails I receive, I have little time left over to actually put into my various sites.
I understand that's not the best excuse, but I've also been preoccupied with things such as taxes and server issues. You'll notice PublisherForums to be a lot faster now.
Regarding the prizes... thanks for your comments as always. Part of the issue is that I'm apprehensive in lowering the threshold for winning prizes, as the prerequisites is my 'failsafe'. I'm offering out a lot of money, and I don't want to spend it with little in return.
Another problem is that it's very difficult advertising such a niche as webmaster-related as advertising costs can be extremely high.
Keep sending the suggestions though on how we can improve traffic and bring some more discussion here!

Some nice award can be given to new posters when they reach let's say 50 posts. All members who reach their first 50 posts can be evaluated and (only) if they were quality/usefull/informative posters they get...something. This can apply for existing members who currently have <50 posts also. This will not attract spammers if the quality rule will be emphasized enough.

I dont see how any one is going to get 80 points. There hasnt been enough contests. I suggest having a contest everyone can participate in.
Say a debate or something.

Smaller prizes that can be won at 50 / 100 (quality) posts would be better. Once someone gets to 50+ they normally stick around, no?
