I've been seeing the growing fad lately, with CSS of the header being treated as a background and not clickable (link-wise) directing to the homepage. I was wondering what are you opinions on this? Should the header/logo always be linked to the homepage or not?
I always personally felt it was a nice user-friendly gesture for easy access back to the root and have always linked the header to the homepage, but has anyone else shared the same ideals?

I allways recommend site owners to set header as a hyperlink to Home. The big area of header is convinient to click, while the little Home link not so much.

Yes, its better to make the header clickable.

I vote for the clickable header. I had this problem the other day on a website. I couldn't find the Home link and the header didn't click so I have to use the Back button.
I also read somewhere that the Back button is either the most, or second most used button on a browser. I forgot what was #1.

The "Go" Button ?
I use my mouse buttons for back and forward, and mouse gestures for opening links in new tab (foreground/background).

In Opera there's a convenient "Paste and Go" option. You put the url in the browser search line and it searching starts.

Yeah, thats a great feature. Its tiny tidbits like that, which makes me love Opera.
In Firefox also you can do it, by getting an extension.

Okay, thanks for the input guys. :) And for the back button, phhh.. who needs that. My mouse has side buttons which integrate automatically in the browser for back and forward.

Well, you know. If there is no logo, might as well make the header clickable. But, with the web 2.0 style taking over, headers will be virtually gone. Atleast graphical headers.

That's a problem I've had quite a bit since I started using AJAX more...
People can browse through an entire forum, hit back, and lose all their history...
Although I suppose it'd be good for sites that you don't want to keep records of :).

Yep, I truly hate that. My Internet's web mail does that and it's a pain to login because you hit the back button.

I would always make the header clickable
