Default digg takes down my server

I put an article on digg today and it got 934 diggs (or duggs whatever they are called) which is quite a lot. It got to the top of digg problem is that hostgator took down all mysites due to over server usage. I have lost out on loads of income, pretty pissed off and to top it all off hostgator will be trying to get me to upgrade my accounts. What would you do? Is there a way around a temporary spike in traffic?

Its annoying becuase I am losing money due to all my sites being down and I will probably have to upgrade in the longer term costing me more money. Might change to theplanet if hostgator try to boot me onto a dedicated.

Any of you had this kind of problem before.

either way congrats on being dugg. must have been awesome to get to the front page.

I've had this problem and should be able to help you out here!

About 2 years ago or so, one of my staff on Movie-Vault.com had obtained very early production photos of Star Wars: Episode 2. A bunch of major leading sites, including Yahoo! (!!!) had linked to it. We got SO much traffic it was INSANE.

It took down my server, too. I was with DreamHost at the time, I believe, and was facing huge overage penalties. I had so much traffic that it took down DreamHost's whole server I was on, and they had to shut down my account (temporarily).

The solution? I had my friend come to the rescue, and he basically mirrored everything onto another site. Now, technical-wise I couldn't tell you how he did it exactly, but he basically copied the site onto another server and then used mod_rewrite I believe to have all the files loaded from the other server, while still on my domain. It worked flawlessly.

Later, my sites were starting to grow where it was then that I decided to do the 'big move' to a dedicated.

So, you could do the mirroring thing, but really that's just a temporarily solution. While being dugg and receiving 934 diggs is certainly a lot, it shouldn't be enough to give you server problems. You should upgrade; the money you'll make from these diggs will easily pay for any added server expenses..

I purchased 20,000 views for my Youtube video on www.socialkik.com and it immediately started appearing on the top of the search results on Youtube and google ! I also received the invitation from google to join their partners program after the views reached 1000, and I was able to make way more from the advetising dollars than I spent to purchase the 20k views from www.socialkik.com
